Leonardo DiCaprio is truly a champion-grade steward and hero of the planet.
Hollywood actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has been named a United Nations Messenger of Peace, a post he will use to raise awareness about climate change, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on September 15th.
"Leonardo DiCaprio is not just one of the
world's leading actors," Ban said. "He has also a long-standing
commitment to environmental causes, including through his foundation."
The two-day conference brought together experts, government officials, and apparently, at least one celebrity “to review the state of the science and determine concrete actions that can be taken at all levels to help protect ocean ecosystems,” the State Department said.
John Kerry tweeted: “Look fwd to having @LeoDiCaprio at #OurOcean2014, He's been an important advocate/partner to protect the health of our ocean.”
“I’m pleased that Leo DiCaprio is lending his powerful voice to our call to action to work together to protect the world’s ocean,” Kerry said, according to the statement.
Mr. Dicaprio, when he’s not making blockbuster box office films, is busy helping many environmental causes. He also funds many programs through his foundation, LDF.
